Fine Feathers

This happened few years ago
When whiling away time in markets
I stumbled upon a talking parrot.

It was inside a gilded cage
Feathers clipped and in a doleful state
Never really my kind of thing.

I swear it winked at me
When it caught my eye
And whistled a broken tune.

A most excellent choice sir
A bargain said the seedy proprietor
With a gleam in his eye.

That parrot can keep you amused
For hours on an end
Whistling Beatles and Beethoven.

Bugger him said the parrot
I can't really hold a tune
Just rescue me from this dump.

Honesty wins me over
So I took him home and said
Forget the singing
To me you are fine feathers.

Continuing with the A to Z challenge.

Today it is a quirky touch in 'F' for 'Fine Feathers'

I'd love read what you think about this post...

  1. Nice poem and sadly too true. But at least you saved this guy.

  2. Even parrots sense a good heart. Your versification is attractive for its diction .
