Wilted Flower

PHOTO PROMPT © Marie Gail Stratford

On gloomy days I find myself
On an abandoned bed all alone
Feet tracing arabesque patterns
Lying unfettered on empty sheets

I penned panegyrics in your name
Those words now empty and hollow
An apotheosis of longing and desire
Decayed, rotting and falling away

The once blossoming flower
Stands withered and forlorn
Drooping leaves
And petals fallen

On gloomy days I find myself
Harking back to brighter days
That perfect first flush of love
Dug in deep and planted roots

I hold the wilted flower close
Inhale the fragrance of dying rose
It perishes today

But tomorrow it blooms anew

A very late entry but I find myself attempting a poem again.  I have to confess that I find writing poetry harder than sticking to prose.  You also hope that the readers will appreciate the direction you took and maybe enjoyed reading it too.

I'd love read what you think about this post...

  1. Dear Subroto,

For someone who finds it hard to write poetry, you've outdone yourself. I feel the same way about poetry. Occasionally I write it but not often. Good one, sir.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

  2. I like it, Subroto. You may struggle, but it does not come through in the writing!

  5. Seems good to me - I don't often venture into poetry and tend not to comment on poems so much as I don't pretend to know much about it!
