“Les yeux sont le
miroir de l’ame”
As he gazed into her eyes, Desmond was overwhelmed with love
for Molly.
It seemed only yesterday that
he had read her profile on the website and tentatively initiated contact.
Now a year had gone by since she had come
into his life. There were sceptics along
the way; the doubters whose dark murmurings reached him but were ignored.
She smiled at him “And how was your day, day, day...” the staccato
burst interrupting the moment.
He sighed reaching for the jar of batteries.
“I should have chosen the self charging option instead”.

Written for Friday Fictioneers Word Count : 100Travelling teaches you better time management skills (or so we think). So I will be attempting to post before the weekend commute home. The other advantage of not being the last to post is that sometimes people even read your submission.
Desmond and Molly do have their own song ;-)
Subroto, that was pure genius. You are a fantastic story-teller -- humorous, too. That bit about her smiling at him and burping, “And how was your day, day, day...” in a staccato burst was pure poetry. And that part about his reaching for the jar of batteries, with that last statement,“I should have chosen the self charging option instead,” is perfectly timed.
ReplyDeleteI cannot say more, except that I also love your names, and the Beatles song that goes with the names.
Thank you Vijaya for your kind comments. Leaves me blushing. I am glad you liked the story.
DeleteVery good. Nice misdirection in the build-up. I was expecting a horrifying internet dating experience, but this is much more entertaining.
ReplyDeleteActually it seems robotic 'companions' are already around. Thanks for your comments Margaret, I am glad you liked it.
DeleteLOL...nice twist! Ypu had me thinking he had went to a dating site, which I am assume was your intention.
ReplyDeleteI was indeed seeking to mislead :-) Thanks for your comments Dawn, I am glad you liked it.
DeleteDear Subroto,
ReplyDeleteAren't you the clever one this week? Loved it. Obla Dee Obla Dah life goes on bra!
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you Rochelle, I knew that Beatles song would reel you in ;-)
DeleteWhat a clever twist. Too sad that he's resigned himself to loving a robot though. Unless she's self-aware...
ReplyDeleteIt's a true on-off relationship. Thanks for your comments Gabriele.
DeleteThat was an amusing story with a great twist at the end, Subroto. He definitly should have opted for the self-charging option. Well done. :D --- Suzanne
ReplyDeleteHe will be in charge next. Thanks for your comments Suzanne, I am glad you liked it.
DeleteIt's never wise to save money on those robots... very unexpected end.
ReplyDeleteShould have gone deluxe. Thanks for your comments Björn
