Made for Each Other

Copyright -Sandra Crook
She cast a jaded eye outside as the silver Mercedes came to a stop in the tiny hamlet.  A farmer’s tractor laden with freshly scythed hay was slowly making its way along the local road.   He was smiling and laughing with his passengers – a young woman and a child.

He was still the same, those powerful shoulders, the strong jawline and that aquiline look.  He adored her but she had still left him.  Now beside her sat her lying and philandering husband.  Buying a French chateau to make up for last year peccadillos.

A bastard but we deserve each other.

  2. Dear Subroto,

It goes to show that money doesn't buy happiness. At least she's true to herself in the last line. Nice one.

She has self-knowledge, which is good, but it seems not to have brought her happiness...or maybe happiness for her only goes as far as the next chateau. Sad.

    1. Thank you Janet. I suppose having riches does not guarantee the path to happiness, as in her case.

I like that this character knows herself so well, and the title fits well. There's a POV switch at the end (from her to we), which I assume is supposed to be a thought - could do with italics or quote marks to indicate that. It's certainly a powerful final line.

    1. Thanks Jennifer for your comments. I was trying to eliminate the extra words of 'she thought' :-) I've put the last line in italics now to make it clearer.

  5. Good story and well written. Looks like she chose money over love and suffered for it.
