River of Time

Copyright-Melanie Greenwood

Suzanne takes you down
to her place near the river

My mind takes me to the courtyard of her home where I hear the boats go by.  I was drawn to her like a moth to the flame.  Suzanne, I watched you dance at Le Vieux Moulin with Armand, never daring to encroach.  Entranced by the crazy energy emanating from you.

I remember the imperfection of the crooked floors and our conversations while we had tea and oranges.

I still find myself drifting on the river of time, seeking to find meaning and love in this confusion we call life.

This has been one of my favourite songs of all time and this week after having listened to it again, I decided to  find out the history of the song.  So there was actually a Suzanne and I didn't know that it was a Leonard Cohen song.  Heard different singers do their version.  In my biased mind I still think Neil Diamond's version is the best.   This week's story itself I am unsure if I have been able to do it justice.

What Lies Beneath

PHOTO PROMPT Copyright- The Reclining Gentleman

The hollow nasal honking of the swans snapped him out of his reverie.   The greedy birds were swimming to the shore in anticipation of a feed.  The calm surface of the lake hid its secrets well.

What lies beneath?  Still waters run deep and in his seemingly placid life there were clandestine meetings, masked desires and dark motivations.

The man next to him was talking, “True fact Swans mate for life though sometimes ‘divorce’ does occur after nesting failure.”

A diver broke though the water and flashed a ‘thumbs up’ sign.

“Shall we talk now sir or at the station?”

The Shell

PHOTO PROMPT – Copyright – Douglas M. MacIlroy

The little shells were littered across her workshop.   A veritable cornucopia of molluscs in an assortment of shapes and colour pleasing to behold.

There was a time when people were happy to get just a seashell, with their iridescent insides reflecting the colours of the sea.  Put one close to your ear and hear the rushing of the sea-tides. Close your eyes and smell the salty breeze.

But now they wanted works of art, framed and decorated with natural stones, sea stars and corals.

Surely you know her? She sells sea shells by the sea shore from her web store.

Songs from the Big Chair

PHOTO PROMPT Copyright-Rochelle Wisoff-Fields

I play the songs in my head these days.  They are the songs from the bigchair where I now sit and narrate my story.

To those who ask why I retained the studio after the members left, I respond that it was the musical memory that I wished to keep alive.

Music presents an emotion that your soul can react to.  It is like experiencing the emotions of other people.  But you recognise and react to it in your own way with a sense of joy or deep melancholia.

I only killed them so that their music would survive.

Missing too many prompts recently, couldn't let this one go.  Not after the wonderful story by Rochelle.
