You Do The Maths

Image by Björn Rudberg at http://brudberg.wordpress.com
The last time I saw my father he was in a reminiscent mood.

“My time is nearly up.  If I find myself in heaven I hope it will be in the company of Solly Goldstein and his band.  I owe them eternal gratitude”.

“Who’s Solly Goldstein?”

“Solly played at the Ballina RSL.  The best guitar player I have heard. Your mother and I went to his Beatles Tribute show in February the year you were born.”

“So?”

“Music heard in the company of a loved one stays with you forever.  Plus you were born in November.  You do the maths.”

  1. Ah.. yes the math... the math... in Sweden there is a big peak born around March 20... (Midsummer is a big holiday here)... and yes music evokes memories more than anything.

  2. Nicely done. I wonder if the off-spring really wanted to know that. :)

    1. Ha! Ha! TMI. Parents should be allowed to gross out their progeny once in a while :-)
      Thanks for reading Sandra.

Haha - seems like the son's getting a few home truths whether he likes it or not! My only question would be over the word "met" in the first line. It feels a bit as though they are estranged, whereas I assume you just meant them to be living apart because the narrator is older. Maybe "saw" would work better? Or "spoke to", although I like the idea they are together

    1. Thank you for that detailed feedback, I think that does make sense when you put it that way. It is a subtle change but I've substituted 'met' with 'saw'.

  6. Dear Subroto,

It seems we were on a similar wavelength this week. For some reason the photo prompt screamed "George Harrison" to me.

    Well done, enjoyable story.

    Shalom,

There are moments we just seem to remember forever. Solly=conception. Does this make him a musical God? I really enjoyed this Subroto.

As a parent who has grossed out her own offspring when feeling a bit evil I loved this!

I like this, even though the offspring probably thinks it's a bit too much information. Does them good once in a while to remind them that they didn't invent everything!!!
    Well done
