He strode into the room with his usual giant strides. What he really needed was shot of caffeine after his afternoon siesta.
He smiled indulgently as the room was filled with the sounds of the gentle strumming of the harp.
Good coffee and music that was all that he needed. He was glad that that coffee was always brewing, all he had to do was come into this room and it would be set up for him.
He stood and inhaled appreciatively. Something was different today. He stood there tentatively and twitching his nostrils sniffed again. “Fee fi fo fum…”

I'd love read what you think about this post...
Wonderful, Subroto!
ReplyDeleteTotally enjoyable.
Thanks Dale I am glad you liked it.
DeleteI loved the title
ReplyDeleteThanks Neil :-)
DeleteThe other side of the story. Well done :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Iain. Someone has to tell it ;-)
DeleteWhat is different? Is he being drugged today?
ReplyDeleteThe giant just woke up and now he smells Jack (from the beanstalk story).
DeleteTerrific title. Someone's coffee break is about to come to an abrupt end, I suspect.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra. Yes they missed telling us about the magic coffee machine in the story. That loss actually hit the giant harder than the others ;-)
DeleteThat'll teach the humans for nicking his freshly-brewed coffee :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Alistair but we all know that the human got away in the end ;-)
DeleteGreat title and the story!
ReplyDeleteThanks Loré I am glad you liked it.
DeleteThis is very original. Great write.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa.
DeleteBrilliant! And the title is perfect!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ellie I am glad you liked it.
DeleteWhat a super take on an old tale! You've paid great attention to detail, from title to conclusion and it's really paid off. Kudos!
ReplyDeleteThanks Penny for those wonderful comments.
DeleteDear Subroto,
ReplyDeleteSubtle twist of an old tale. Love it!
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thanks Rochelle, these fairy tales just keep writing themselves :-)
DeleteDelightfully different! Love it.
ReplyDeleteClick to read my FriFic tale!
Thanks Keith.
DeleteYikes! Run for your life :)
ReplyDeleteTime to slide down the beanstalk ;-)
DeleteOh no, not my coffee bean! Great twist on the fable.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo. It was probably the coffee that made him return again and again :-)
DeleteI think that he there is something sinister brewing...
ReplyDeleteThe end of a giant perhaps?
DeleteLike the others here, I love your title. Perhaps the giant can smell the blood of an Englishman but surely an Englishman is more likely to steal a nice cup of tea?
ReplyDeleteThat is a good point about tea ;-) Thank you for reading and commenting.
DeleteCleverly written. connecting it to a story we all know makes it perfect.
ReplyDeleteThanks Priya I am glad you liked it.
DeleteI like your play on the beans, jack and the stalk and fi fo fum...
ReplyDeletethat was fun
but even without that you brilliantly grabbed what many coffee lovers LOVE:
"always brewing"
and
"shot of caffeine after his afternoon siesta"
"Good coffee and music"
" inhaled appreciatively"
seriously - this was written by a writer who knows his coffee and the experience
well done
Thanks a latte Yvette for your brewtiful comments.
