“Nervous?”
The gentleman in an airline uniform gives me a kind smile. I suppose it’s on my face, this journey that
I never wanted to take but am now booked to go.
“A little” I reply.
“Relax,” he says “It will be over before you know”.
I take another look
at his startling green eyes in a face that is wrinkled like a prune.
I nod at the other travellers, “I expected it to be different,
not such an orderly wait.”
He laughs.
“We do need to update the books. I am
Charon and I’ll be flying your craft today.”

I'd love to read what you think about this post...
nicely understated
ReplyDeleteThanks Neil.
DeleteAh, Charon upgraded. Nice one.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gabi, wait till you see his social media page.
DeleteIt all seems comfortingly civilised.
ReplyDeleteThanks Iain, they had to deplane a few and put them on the flight to hell...
DeleteDear Subroto,
ReplyDeleteHe was very reassuring until he shared his name. I guess even Charon had to move on with the times. ;) Well done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Charon has been through some intensive customer handling training and it shows ;-)

ReplyDeleteThanks Ali, they don't let you travel with an baggage though.
DeleteSurrounded by kindness, order and civility. What a nice way to go - we don't get anything like that in the world of the living. A very imaginative and engaging story.
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret I am glad you liked it.
DeleteThat will definitely be his last flight. I understood it was a boat but then times change. A good story that's well written, Subroto. :) --- Suzanne
ReplyDeleteThanks Suzanne. Charon has been due for an upgrade for a few centuries now :-)
DeleteA very creative story, Subroto, gently told!
