“So what do you think?” he asks, head tilted sideways and
eyes seeking answers.
“Interesting” I reply
to this child who is now mine. This is
our time to bond.
“I call it ‘Relationships’.
Relationships can be complicated you know” he adds, “A bit like the
human body inside.”
“How so?” I take the bait.
“Inside we are all a
complex mix of blood, bone, muscles and sinew.
Sustained by a beating heart. “
“And?”
“Relationships are a
complex mix of emotions and feelings but in the end we are all sustained by
love”.
And there he gets me again.

Welcome all to another week of the Friday Fictioneers. I started writing this in an airport lounge shuttling between cities on work. The story was done in the flight and then completed at home. I have a feeling that the rest of the stories this year are going to follow this pattern. While I love the 100 words format, sometimes you have to leave it open to the readers without clearly trying to spell out what you want to say. Hopefully it worked. Clever kid. Answers are cheap - it's good questions that are hard to find

Thank you Susan.
DeleteI hate those kids that are way smarter than us adults and see the world so clearly for what it is without all the complicated nonsense! :-)
ReplyDeleteTnanks Iain. It's good to use the kid filter sometimes.
DeleteDear Subroto,
ReplyDeleteI'd say you used your travel time wisely. What a lovely story of adoption. This child who is now mine. I love that. Methinks they have bonded. Beautifully written.
Shalom,
Rochelle
I was hoping someone would pick up on that hint about adoption. Thanks for commenting Rochelle I am glad you liked it.
DeleteThe attitude from the child makes me optimistic for their future lives together. Jilly, Sugar on the Bee.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jilly. I'd say that the child has found true love here.
DeleteThis is a lovely story... I think they are bonding very well... maybe the child is the better one doing it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Björn. Sometimes children can show us the way much better.
DeleteKids who think are so much fun to teach. This one would have been a favorite student of mine. And yes, of course teachers have favorites. We just try not to show it. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda. My wife is a teacher, i think I understand :-)
