There is something elemental about stargazing. Looking up at night and observing the shimmering
stars overhead, you wonder about the mysteries of the cosmos.
On a clear night our naked eyes can see the Andromeda galaxy
which is 2.5 million light years away from us.

One of the most gifted minds in our world passed away today. It was not just his shining intellect that was remarkable, it was also his spirit and tenacity to achieve what he had in face of insurmountable odds that was inspirational.

Dear Subroto,
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw your title I knew where you were going. Lovely and fitting tribute.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thanks Rochelle, after reading of the passing away of Stephen Hawkings and the photo prompt of a camera pointing skywards, it was the least I could do.
DeleteA nice tribute to Stephen Hawking
ReplyDeleteThanks Neil I am glad you liked it.
DeleteI have seen that quote a lot today, and rightly so. A great man.
ReplyDeleteThere were quite a few tributes today. Thanks for reading and commenting Iain.
DeleteLovely tribute, Subroto. Well done. And smart... using his quote for your word count ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Dale. I felt his words had a greater impact than anything I could write. Luckily everything fell together.
DeleteConsidering his physical condition he made it pretty far. I'm glad of that.
ReplyDeleteHe went beyond all predictions, didn't he. I suppose we should be grateful for that.
Deleteps. excellent video to go with both the piece and the man.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alice.
DeleteExcellent homage Subroto. The universe will miss him sorely.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anurag. Indeed it will miss a man who was perhaps the most celebrated icon of contemporary science.
DeleteLovely tribute Subroto. We've lost a great mind and an inspirational man.
ReplyDeleteThanks Irene, he was a great inspiration indeed. "However bad life may seem," he explained, "there is always something you can do, and succeed at."
DeleteA fitting tribute to a great mind and a courageous and tenacious personality.
ReplyDeleteThanks Penny, he was very tenacious indeed. "Never give up" was one of the things he said often.
DeleteA well crafted tribute to Stephen Hawking, Subroto.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Norma.
Thanks Norma I am glad you liked it.
DeleteA fitting tribute to a great physicist. I am reminded that the star I am seeing may have met an adverse fate and may not be there during the time its rays reached me.
ReplyDeleteThat is so true YS. In the everyday sense we are indeed looking back in time when we see the stars in the sky.
DeleteGood advice--but I've reached the age at which I really need to pay attention to where I put my feet, or I end up on the ground :)
ReplyDeleteWell we all need to look where we walk but at the same time we should reach for the stars :-)
Deletewhat a great quote. he'll certainly be missed.
ReplyDeleteThanks Plaridel. Professor Hawking was told at the age of 21 that he had 2 years to live, so reaching the age of 76 goes well beyond everyone else's expectation.
DeleteI always find it weird when looking at the stars that some of what we're looking at may have ceased to exist millennia ago :-)
ReplyDeleteNice tribute.
Thanks Alistair, apparently one of the most distant naked eye stars is Deneb in the constellation Cygnus, which is almost 3,000 light years away. The light we’re seeing from Deneb started its journey towards us takes us to 983 BC when the founding of Solomon's Temple is placed.
DeleteThat's such a fitting tribute. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra I am glad you liked it.
DeleteA tribute worth reading. Well done.
ReplyDeleteHe was a remarkable man. Thanks for commenting Liz.
DeleteSuch a topical and touching tribute.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah, I am glad you liked it.
DeleteThanks Sascha.
ReplyDeleteLovely tribute for a man who changed science. Well done
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynn I am glad you liked it.
DeleteLove the tribute... being a physicist myself I always knew that there was a difference between me and the best.
ReplyDeleteWell as a physicist you probably have a greater appreciation his work than the rest of us. Thanks for your comments Björn, I am glad you liked it.
DeleteLovely tribute to one of the greatest contributors to human achievement. Stephen Hawking's quotes are always inspiring.
ReplyDelete
DeleteThanks Fatima I am glad you liked it.
